Providing Support to SEND Students During Results Time

26th June, 2023 Read time: Two minutes

Results time brings a mix of emotions to students every year – from anticipation and anxiety to relief and excitement. And it’s not just the students – parents often feel this way too!

If you’re the parent of a young person with additional needs, one source of stress and anxiety could be the feeling that your child will lack the support they had in the school environment once it’s time for them to move on.

If that’s the case, we’d like to assure you that we’re here to offer our support. Our expert Career Coaches can help you explore the different support option available and give you all the information you need to make your future plans with confidence.

Talk to the Team

Our team of experienced SEND careers coaches are available to work with young people with additional needs. Whether they need support getting into further education, employment, or training opportunities, our team is on hand to help.

We have years of skills and experience to provide the guidance that is right for you.

Jayden’s Story

Last year, we supported Jayden during his transition to college. He went from feeling anxious about his future and doubtful about securing a place at college to enrolling and developing his confidence

I would not have even tried applying if it wasn’t for the help from Futures. All the hard work has paid off. Jayden

And it wasn’t just Jayden that we were able to support – we were also able to help him mum talk through her worries and understand her options.

Manisha broke down all the information in a way that made sense to both of it. Most importantly, I never felt like we were being told what to do. Manisha gave options to Jayden which helped him see he has choices as a young man. Jayden's Mum

A’s Story

We’re also able to provide support to young people who are currently outside of education or employment – like the support we offered A.

When we first met A, he felt anxious around new people and being out of work and education made him feel cut off from the world. A started working with Sally, an adviser on our Specialist Support Team, and was soon given the opportunity to complete work experience through The Prince’s Trust.

We also provided him with further education about earning wages, applying for jobs and what the working world is like. As a result, A has developed newfound confidence and gained a greater sense of independence.

Praise for Our Incredible Coaches

At Futures, we truly believe that people make the place. That’s why we’re so proud when a light is shined on the hard work of our passionate people. Here are just some of the things that have been said about some of our coaches:

“Vicky has played an important role over the past couple of years.  She has supported students with CV writing, preparation for interviews, including applying for jobs, and mock interviews. This is crucial with the preparation into the world of work now and in the future.”

“Without Futures involvement in the support for our students, their development onto their next destination would not be successful as it is today.”

“Manisha always gives me really detailed answers and explains everything clearly for me to understand.  She is always there to help me when I am feeling confused about anything.”

“Futures offer impartial advice and guidance to our students which helps develop their confidence, self-esteem and encourages them to have an active role in their own future. The support given by Futures is not only offered to the student but is extended to the family too, as transition for the family is equally as important to them.”

“Manisha’s dedication and expertise is invaluable to students finding the right placement and making sure the support is in place.”
