Preparing to Work in Schools

This course will give learners the foundation knowledge needed to develop their understanding of the school environment; child development; keeping children and young people healthy, safe and well; and communication with children and adults.  

Learners do not need to be working or undertaking practical placements to take this qualification.

FREE Level 1 Preparing to teach in schools

Learn in-person at our Nottingham Training Centre.

This course is designed to prepare learners for further learning and training, such as, the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning or Teaching Assistant apprenticeships.

This qualification is designed for learners who are thinking of working in a school setting including: young people, mature learners, learners with special educational needs or where English is an additional language. 

What will the course cover? 

  • Understand schools as organisations
  • Understand how to keep children and young people healthy, safe and well
  • Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults

What can i do next? 

Upon completion of your Level 1 Certificate you have a number of new opportunities: 

  • Apply confidently for entry level job vacancies in your chosen industry  
  • Apply for a Level 2 apprenticeship 
  • Progress onto a Level 2 course

FREE Level 2 Understanding specific learning difficulties 

Join our online course with access to a skilled tutor for support when needed.

Working in schools can invole supporting a range of individuals including those with learning difficulties. Our Level 2 qualifications will strengthen learners understanding of special learning difficulties and their unique challenges and strengths.

The qualification aims to equipt learners with knowledge of different Specific Learning Difficulties,such as ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia,  how they are diagnosed, and how individuals can be supported.

  • Understand the Diagnosis of Specific Learning Difficulties

To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:

  • I currently live in England
  • I was aged 19 or over on 31st August 2023
  • I have lived in the UK or EU/EEA for the last 3 years*
  • I am seeking employment/claiming unemployment benefits or earning below £20,319 annually**
