    About the Role

    Main Purpose of Role

     

    To operate communications systems and equipment and deal with enquiries from the public and agencies, ensuring that calls for service are appropriately prioritised, allowing resources to be deployed efficiently and in keeping with performance standards and published policies/guidelines laid down by the Force.

    Receive, evaluate and process the following types of telephone calls within agreed Force performance targets, ensuring a professional and sensitive response in line with force policy at all times.

    • Emergency Services ‘999’ calls
    • Mini-com and for people with hearing disabilities
    • Intruder alarm activations
    • Non-emergency Calls from members of the public
    • Internal personnel and external agencies, other Forces and

    emergency services

    • ‘Call-Outs’ for police surgeon, engineers, recovery etc.
    • Media enquiries
    • ESMS Calls

    All calls must be risk assessed and working practices complied with, to ensure safety of the public is not compromised.

    All applicants will be subject to the Force Vetting Policy.

    The post holder will be required to work in a confidential environment, with a high level of integrity, and be vetted to Management Level.

    Successful applicants will also be subject to a drug screening conducted by Alere Toxicology in which samples of hair are collected and analysed to determine whether any substances may be present that could affect the safety, performance or behaviour of that person in the workplace.

    All applicants will be subject to the Force Vetting Policy. This Vetting Process includes Nottinghamshire Police checking details against fraud prevention databases and Biometric Vetting taking of fingerprints and DNA.

    To enable you to become effective in the role, you must  be able to communicate effectively, make decisions using your own initiative and manage your own levels of stress. You must be able to work as part of a team and have experience of, or an ability to deal with members of public over the phone who may at times be upset or angry.

     

    You must be able to work a rotating shift pattern and unsociable hours over a 24/7, 365-day period, for which you will be paid a shift and weekend working allowance.

    If you are successful at the shortlisting stage, you will be invited to an online work based test, where you will need to be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute, have a good grasp of spelling and be able to demonstrate good accurate keyboard skills along with the ability to converse on the telephone and record information at the same time. Reasonable adjustments can be offered at the testing stage, subject to need.
