NEET figures remain low in Nottingham

Figures out this week show over 97.1% of Year 11 leavers in Nottingham have gone into education, employment or training. With just 2.9% of young people across the city showing as not in education, employment or training.

Local Authority NEET is an initiative that supports young people in secondary school to reduce the likelihood of them becoming unemployed. Futures for You’s NEET reduction service is carried out for both Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, working intensively to help young people with the choice between continuing in education and moving into work with training.

For the first time in the initiative’s history there are 0 Year 11 leavers students across the city whose position is not known; a true testament to the outstanding work Futures undertakes to support young people during some of the most challenging transitions in their lives.

Futures, an Ofsted rated ‘outstanding’ provider, provides careers guidance and support to young people across Nottingham and the wider region. For those young people who haven’t yet found themselves an opportunity after leaving school, there’s still plenty of chance to find the option that’s right for them.

Amanda Payne, Head of Operations at Futures for You, echoed this, “It’s great to see the NEET figures remaining low, but even more so that there are no Year 11 leavers whose position is not known. Of course, our support is still needed and we will continue to provide advice and guidance to help young people and their families continue their journey, whether that be further education, training or employment.”
