Advanced Education Courses in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

Are you aged 19-24 and looking start your teaching career? 

Futures are working in partnership with Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) to offer young people direct access to careers in Early Years and Adult Education settings. 

These qualifications can also be used as a stepping stone to becoming a qualified teacher. 

 

Subject to eligibility: Only available to people living in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough who are aged between 19-24.

Choosing the right Education setting  

Due to the siginificant difference in skills required to teach in early years education compared to adult education, we offer two different courses providing access to careers at both ends of the spectrum.

Depending on your goals, you can complete a course that will lead to careers in either Early Years (Nursery, Pre-school and Childminding) or Further Education (adult training, sixth form colleges and youth work).

These courses can be completed in as little as: 

  • Level 3 Diploma for the Children’s Workforce  - 29 weeks 
  • Level 3 Award in Education - 11 weeks

Level 3 Diploma for the Children’s Workforce  

This Level 3 Diploma prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.

What will the course cover?

The qualification is made up of 3 main topics including:

  • Health and well-being
  • Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
  • Play, development and learning for school readiness

Training will be delivered both face-to-face and virtually with two training days and two placement days per week for a total of 29 weeks

What can I do next? 

Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as an Early Years Educator in Nursery and pre-school settings. 

You are also able to continue your studies to work in a primary school: 

  • Train as a Teaching Assistant with a Futures apprenticeship
  • Access a Teacher Training Undergraduate Degree and earn your QTS (qualified teacher status)

Level 3 Award in Education 

The Level 3 Award in Education provides access to training jobs in Further Education (16 plus) OR offers the next step in becoming a qualified Teacher/ Teaching Assistant in schools. 

What will the course cover?

The qualification is made up of 3 main topics including:

  • Understanding roles and responsibilities
  • Inclusive learning & teaching approaches
  • Principles and practices of assessment 

Training will be delivered both face-to-face and virtually with one session per week for a total of 11 weeks.  

What can I do next? 

With this qualification alone, you will be able to secure employment in the further education and skills sector (teaching subjects to learners aged 16 and over). 

You are also able to continue your studies to work in a secondary school: 

  • Train as a Teaching Assistant with a Futures apprenticeship
  • Access a Teacher Training Undergraduate Degree and earn your QTS (qualified teacher status)
